About Sakata
Sakata is a subsidiary of Sakata Seed Corporation – an international horticultural seed company in Japan with its regional Head Office in France. The company represents and is currently empowering its footprint in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Known for its “PASSION in Seed”, Sakata is an ISO 9001 accredited company within South Africa, which aims to employ highly qualified professionals that are passionate about vegetable production, commerce, and marketing. For this reason, Sakata offers a variety of opportunities for local and international individuals.
MayFord Seeds Ltd. was one of the most diverse and oldest vegetable seed companies in South Africa that dealt with professional vegetable, seed production, hobby packet seed, vegetable breeding programs, turf and flower seed, and specially curated products for the home garden market. In the late 1960s, MayFord was the only distributor of high-quality Sakata’s products in South Africa.
In December 1999, Japan’s Sakata Seed Corporation of Yokohama acquired MayFord Seeds. Today, Sakata is one of the largest seed production groups in the world with comprehensive global research programs in flower and vegetable seeds.
On April 1, 2008, MayFord Seeds changed its name to Sakata Seed Southern Africa Ltd. The company has a reputation for taking a responsible, meticulous, and scientific approach to production research and technical support. Sakata is one of the largest producers and suppliers of high-quality onion, carrot, beetroot, and bunching onion seeds for the global Sakata group.
Sakata Seed Southern Africa is certified as per the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ensuring customers of their highest quality products, diversity, consistency, nutritional value, and excellent service.
