Reasons for Changing Your Phone Number

You might need to change your SASSA phone number due to:

  • Switching mobile network providers.
  • Losing or damaging your SIM card.
  • Losing your mobile phone or it being stolen.
  • Using someone else’s phone number initially and losing contact with them.

Steps to Change Your Phone Number on the SRD Grant

With an Application ID

  1. Visit the Contact Details Update Page: Go to the SASSA SRD grant contact details page at
  2. Enter Personal Details: Input your South African ID number and your Application ID.
  3. Submit and Update Contact Information: Click “Submit”, then enter your new phone number and email address.
  4. Specify the Reason for Change: Choose the appropriate reason for changing your number.
  5. Receive and Enter OTP: An OTP (one-time password) will be sent to your new number. Enter this OTP to confirm.
  6. Final Submission: Click “Submit” to complete the process.

Without an Application ID

  1. Retrieve Your Application ID: Visit the SASSA SRD grant status check page. Enter your ID number and your old phone number. Your Application ID will appear.
  2. Follow the Above Steps: Once you have your Application ID, follow the steps mentioned in the previous section.

Important Notes

  • RICA Process for Cardless ATM Withdrawals: If you use the cardless method at ATMs, ensure your new number has undergone the RICA process.
  • Bank Account Details: Payments must go into an account in your name; SASSA does not pay into third-party accounts.
  • Contacting SASSA: You can also update your details by calling 0800 60 10 11, but expect long wait times.
  • One Request per Day: Only one contact detail update request is permitted every 24 hours.
