About South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA)
The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) was founded in 1966 is an organisation that aims to designate, preserve and improve its members’ property benefits within the property industry. SAPOA provides information resources for its members and governments through the collection and distribution of property data and statistics. The association currently holds a small enterprise B-BBEE verification certificate and is a level one contributor.
South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Bursaries
SAPOA Bursary Fund aims to support deserving students who will provide a valuable contribution to the association and its members by awarding educational funding through the SAPOA Bursary Scheme. The recipients of the bursary scheme shall be BBBEE defined Black people including Africans, Coloureds and Indians, who are citizens of the Republic of South Africa.
The following fields of study are accepted by the SAPOA Bursary Fund:
- Architectural Studies (BSc)
- Construction Studies (BSc)
- Property-related Masters Programmes
- Property-related PhD Programmes
- Property Studies (BSc)
- Property Development and Management (PGDipPDM – Postgraduate Diploma)
- Property Valuation and Management (BCom)
- Quantity Surveying (BSc)
- Real Estate (BSc)
- Urban/ Town and Regional Planning (Bachelor)
Bursaries will be granted based on academic performance, financial need and availability of funds. Bursary funds are paid directly to institutions and ONLY under exceptional events that the funds will be paid directly to bursary holders.
Upon graduation, bursary holders may be offered with employment opportunities by the SAPOA and/or its partner companies through the Graduate Development Programme. However, employment opportunities from the association is not guaranteed and SAPOA has no obligation to provide employment to bursary holders.
SAPOA Bursary Requirements and Eligibility
- South African citizenship
- Must be under 35 years old
- Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Current students or applicants who are registered as students for a property-related qualification at a CHE accredited Institution in South Africa
- Post-graduate students/applicants are not eligible except for certain qualifications which will award the applicant registration in the property industry
- Academic excellence
- Proven financial need
How to Apply and Application Details

Attach certified copies of ALL of the following documents to your application form:
- A certified copy of your ID document
- Matric Term 2 Report, if currently in Matric (with official school stamp)
- A certified copy of your Matric certificate, if completed Matric
- Proof of registration at university, for the 2023 academic year, if currently studying (official letter on letterhead)
- Acceptance letter (or provisional) from an accredited institution, for the 2024 academic year (official letter on letterhead)
- A certified copy of your most recent official academic transcripts, if currently studying
- Postgraduate students: recommendation letter by Supervisor
- Bursary agreement/ letter/ offer if you received funding from another bursary or NSFAS
- A certified copy of your parents or guardians ID documents/ death certificate if deceased (certified copies)
- A certified copy of your parents or guardians proof of household income (3 months payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ SASSA documents if receiving a grant)
- Motivational letter stating why you should be awarded the bursary/ personal statement (max 2 pages)
- Curriculum Vitae stating work experience and background (if not included in the personal statement)
- 2 letters of recommendation (1 page per letter, combined into 1 pdf or doc)
- Department of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Doctors’ Letter, if disabled
- Students under 18 years old: Parents or guardians ID document (certified copy) AND completed consent form
Incomplete application forms, as well as application forms with incorrect information, will be rejected. Faxed applications will NOT be accepted.
