Dell Young Leaders Bursary Program

About Michael & Susan Dell Foundation

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation was founded in 1999 through the sales revenue generated from the sales of Dell Inc. shares. Since then, more than $1.3 billion has been allocated to help children and communities living in poverty. In the foundation’s early years, the main goal was focused on improving children’s education and health in Central Texas. However, a few years later on, the foundation’s scope has extended to national and to global. Today, MSDF operates in United States, Central Texas, India and South Africa.

Dell Young Leaders Bursary Program

Dell Young Leaders Program was created by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, to address the education issues of South African children. The program helps up to 100 South Africans from poor areas across the University of Cape Town and University of Pretoria, who wish to pursue a professional degree. A bursary amount of R150 000 will be granted as well as laptop and allowance for textbooks and other basic educational needs.

Work opportunities may also be provided to bursary holders according to availability. Bursary holders will also be encouraged to participate in a variety of activities that will help improve students’ academic skills and on-the-job skills. The program will also furnish wrap-around support to students by offering qualified staff and program team to address student’s academic and psycho-social issues to help them secure successful university completion.
