The Livestock Registering Federation (LRF) is a non-profit organization established in 2000 with the primary mission of uniting, protecting, and promoting its members, who serve as Registering Authorities, into an affiliated federation. With a career spanning over two decades, Dr. Bradfield has made significant contributions as a genetics consultant. He played a crucial role in the development and ongoing management of BREEDPLAN, a genetic evaluation system, and HerdMASTER, an on-farm software, within the country. Dr. Bradfield stands out as a diligent and devoted leader, demonstrating a heartfelt commitment to assisting those less fortunate.

LRF Dr Michael Bradfield Bursary 2024

LRF extends an invitation to students for the application of the Dr. Michael Bradfield Bursary for the upcoming academic year 2024/2025. This bursary is designed to offer support for Postgraduate studies focusing on Animal Breeding and Genetics.

Established in honor of the late Dr. Michael Bradfield, a committed genetics consultant, the bursary seeks to promote inclusivity and assist underprivileged students—an initiative close to Dr. Bradfield’s heart.

The specific amount of the bursary will be determined by LRF and disbursed to the successful candidate in two or three installments, once per year and directly to the recipient. In the event that a candidate does not complete their studies, LRF retains the right to reclaim the total award amount with a 10% interest.

Furthermore, candidates benefiting from the bursary are obliged to acknowledge and recognize the support in any dissertation or publication resulting from the award.

Candidates shortlisted for the bursary will be invited for an interview.

Eligibility Criteria

Before submitting their applications, applicants must meet the specified minimum entry criteria. Failure to fulfill all the stipulated requirements will result in the non-consideration of your application:

  • The applicant must have completed BSc Agric in Animal Science.
  • You need to have earned your qualification from a South African university registered with SACNSP.
  • You must be pursuing postgraduate studies in Animal Genetics and Breeding.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 65%.
  • Attain a minimum result of 70% for Animal Breeding and Genetics modules at the third and final year levels.
  • Demonstrate strong academic ability.
  • Intend to complete and graduate within two to three years.
  • Be pursuing postgraduate studies within Animal Genetics and Breeding.

To apply, students should download the LRF Bursary Nomination Form 2024 and subsequently complete it with the assistance of their head of department.

Documents Required

Please include clear copies of the specified supporting documentation when submitting your completed form. It is mandatory to submit these documents; failure to include any items may result in the disqualification of your application.

  • Provide a certified copy of your graduation certificate for the degrees you have accomplished.
  • Furnish a certified copy of the official statement/transcript encompassing all modules completed at an undergraduate level.
  • Submit an updated Curriculum Vitae outlining relevant courses and any awards received.
  • Present a concise project proposal detailing your planned study in Animal Breeding and Genetics.
