The Moses Kotane Institute is an entity of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA).

Moses Kotane Institute Bursary 2020

Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) will be awarding bursaries to South African students who reside in KwaZulu-Natal province. This bursary is for deserving young students who are motivated to pursue a post-graduate (Masters and PhD) education within the six focus areas of MKI namely:

  • Maritime Economy
  • Manufacturing
  • Tourism
  • Agro-Processing
  • Aerotropolis
  • Green Economy

In addition to these six focus areas, MKI will also be providing financial assistance to students who are doing research in the following areas:

  • Rural development and the fourth industrial revolution
  • KZN informal sector (best practices, challenge, nature, size)
  • KZN youth participation in agriculture

Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

In order to be considered for this bursary program, applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria:

  • South African citizen
  • A resident of KwaZulu-Natal province
  • Pursuing or intend to pursue postgraduate studies
  • Studying within one of MKI’s six focus areas

While this bursary is exclusive to South African citizens who are a resident of KwaZulu-Natal province, successful applicants may pursue an education at any tertiary institution in South Africa.

Completed application forms must be submitted along with the following supporting documents:

  • Certified copy of a valid ID
  • Certified copy of academic transcripts
  • Certified copy of academic certificates (must not be older than 3 months)
  • Research proposal
  • Budget
  • Proof of registration
  • Proof of residence
