South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) Bursary 2023

About SACAP

SACAP, or the South African Council for the Architectural Profession, is the regulatory body for professionals involved in the architectural sector of South Africa. The council was mandated by Section 15(5) defined in the Architectural Profession Act of 2000. Prior to 2000, SACAP was called the ‘South African Council for Architects.’

The main role of SACAP is to protect the interest of the South African citizens who are availing architectural services. It vets and approves the architects in the country. As per section 18(2) of the Architectural Profession Act 44 of 2000, no one is allowed to practise as an architect without registering themselves with SACAP. The council also helps the professionals become more competent and align themselves with the Code of Professional conduct.

Besides regulating the architectural professionals in South Africa, the council is also managing a fund that’s set aside for the purpose of education and training of architects. The fund also covers the cost of continuing education and training of the registered members.

SACAP is offering financial assistance to a certain number of students every year who are in need of it via bursaries. These bursaries encourage more students to take up architecture as their career field. SACAP Bursary is meant for students who are already enrolled to pursue an architectural degree. However, it’s limited to students in the second year of their architectural degree up to Masters. You can be studying at any re Architectural Learning Site as long as it’s recognised and accredited.

The value of the bursary will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Those with a higher financial need may get full coverage for their tuition cost. More will be communicated regarding the bursary to the shortlisted candidates within a few weeks after the closing date. If you do not receive any email or phone call, consider your application unsuccessful.
