In South Africa, it operates as Volkswagen Group South Africa Ltd (VWSA) and has a significant presence in the country. Over the years, it has emerged as one of the largest private employers in South Africa.
Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) Bursary 2022
VWSA has several ongoing CSR projects to serve the community under the ‘Volkswagen for Good’ initiative. One of them is the Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) bursary programme. It is intended to address the skill shortage in the South African automotive sector by encouraging more students to take up automobile engineering and related subjects.
For the academic session 2022-23, here are the fields of study within which the bursaries will be awarded:
- Applied Mathematics / Data Science
- Finance / Accounting
- Industrial Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics
- Production / Operations Management
- Purchasing / Logistics / Supply Chain
- Software Development / IT
Students must be pursuing undergraduate degrees to be selected.
The bursary programme is also designed to take a lot of financial burden off of the students. While the value will vary from applicant to applicant, it will cover the following expenses:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Books and stationary
- Accommodation
- Meals
Along with that, bursars will receive a free laptop for study purposes.
Other than financial benefits, bursars will have the opportunity to partake in vacation work. During this work, they will receive mentoring and guidance from experts to further their careers. VWSA will provide exact details on the bursary value and benefits to shortlisted candidates via email. If you do not receive any communication within a few weeks of the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Criteria For The VWSA Bursary
There are certain eligibility criteria for the Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA) Bursary programme laid out by the company. Since there are a limited number of bursaries on offer, it cannot award everyone applying. It rejects those that do not fulfill all of the criteria. Therefore, always cross-check before applying.
The eligibility requirements for the VWSA Bursary programme 2022 are:
- A South African citizen or a South African permanent resident
- Have completed Matric
- Pursuing an undergraduate degree at one of the fields of study mentioned above
- Currently entering their first, second, or third year of study
- Studying full-time and not part-time at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- Secured a Bachelor’s pass with an overall average of at least 70%
- Secured at least 65% minimum overall average at the tertiary level (if currently pursuing an undergraduate qualification)
This is a merit-based bursary programme. Applicants with a stronger academic track record and performance will get priority over others. So fulfilling all of the requirements doesn’t guarantee selection.
