National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) Bursary 2020 – 2021

About the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF)

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) is an organization that initiates the advancement of the South African film industry. It is an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture that provides funding for the development and distribution of films as well as the training of potential filmmakers.

South Africa has a growing film industry offering a diverse range of productions as the country shares its stories with audiences both locally and abroad. However, there is a need to ensure equitable growth and transformation in the industry.

The NFVF is an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture to ensure the equitable and sustainable growth of the country’s film industry. It aims to stimulate the South African film industry and capacitate previously disadvantaged individuals interested in a career in filmmaking. There are vast training needs as the industry is experiencing some skills shortages, which the NFVF plans to eliminate. The foundation offers bursaries for local and international studies related to the film industry.

NFVF Bursaries

The National Film and Video Foundation offers a bursary to disadvantaged students to pursue their studies within the Television and Film industry.

However, the bursaries offered don’t include the acting and performance arts courses. Qualified students who don’t have the funding to pursue their dreams can avail of the two types of bursaries:

National Bursary

Here, students will receive full funding for tuition fees for the first year. After this, they will receive 80% funding. Students who finish their course aren’t required to pay back these expenses neither are they required to work for the company. Students who qualify will get contacted to schedule an interview before the final selection.

International Bursary

This bursary covers provisions up to RS250,000, including tuition fees and the student’s living expenses.
