About DEDEAT

DEDEAT was established to ensure a diversified, growing, and transformed green economy across the Eastern Cape Province in a sustainable environment.

DEDEAT mandates various operations to ensure sustainable growth in the Province related to environmental affairs and economic development. These include decent employment through inclusive economic growth, strategic economic infrastructure network, rural development, food security, land, and agrarian reform, enhanced and protected natural resources and environmental assets, efficient and development-centric public services, and inclusive, fair, and empowered citizenship.

To support this cause, DEDEAT programmes inculcate various strategies and policies including Vision 2030, IPAP, New Growth Plan, PIDS, PEDS-2016, SIP3, the 10-Point-Plan, Renewable Energy Strategy, National Development Plan, and much more.

Department of Economic Development, Environmental, and Tourism (DEDEAT) Bursary 2024

The Department of Economic Development, Environmental, and Tourism (DEDEAT) is offering bursaries to deserving students coming from provincial disadvantaged communities who want to or are already pursuing studies in environmental management and economic development-related degrees for the academic year 2024.

The bursary awards are for the following qualifications:

Eligibility Criteria

Students willing to apply for the DEDEAT Bursary must abide by the following criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must reside in the Eastern Cape Province
  • First preference will be given to students who do not have any post-matric degree and those who have never received a bursary award from DEDEAT
  • DEDEAT will prefer students who pass all relevant subjects

Note: First-time applications for 2nd year of degree admission require students to submit their first-year academic results.

Documents Required

Students must attach the following documents along with the complete application form:

  • Certified copy of your ID
  • Recent passport-size photo
  • Progress reports
  • Certified copy: Grade 12 results
  • Admission letter from your Institution
  • Certified copy of parents/guardians ID document
  • Recent copy of parents/guardians salary advice/pay slip (proof of income)
  • If parents/guardians not working, an affidavit confirming same
  • Proof of address and affidavit – confirming the student is from Eastern Cape
  • Affidavit if parents/guardians are pensioner
  • Certified copy of parents/guardians pensioners card (if applicable)
  • Completed and signed Bursary Award Agreement

Closing Date

The application deadline is 24 November 2023.

Only successful applicants will receive correspondence.
