About ECDOT (Eastern Cape Department of Transport)

The ECDOT (Eastern Cape Department of Transport) looks after enhancing and promoting the transport infrastructure and operations across South Africa to boost the country’s social and economic development.

The ECDOT executes five key programmes to carry out this objective, viz. Transport infrastructure, transport operations, administration, transport regulation, and community development.

The ECDOT mainly comprises two organizations viz. MTC (Mayibuye Transport Corporation) and The Government Fleet Trading Entity.

The General Fleet Management Entity looks after the procurement of vehicles for the Eastern Cape government, disposes of obsolete fleets, administers the government fleet, repaints/repairs/maintains vehicles, and develops/keeps track of fleet management strategies.

On the other hand, MCT – a parastatal bus operation works to ensure all the local communities across Chris Hani and Amathole districts and rural areas get top-notch transport services.

ECDOT Traffic Bursary 2024

The ECDOT wants to boost the number of Traffic officers in the province and is searching for qualified, talented, and unemployed youth across the Eastern Cape to enroll for their NQF Level 5 Diploma qualification in Traffic.

The department will offer bursaries to eligible students and the shortlisted ones must undergo a 1-year training program. In other words, the successful candidates will have to commit to 1-year bursary contract with the Department of Transport.

The training program will be executed in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Province and Eastern Cape Province.

The bursary for the academic year 2024 will cover expenses for the following:

  • Accommodation and meals
  • Uniform
  • Study material

The main objective of the training programme will be to cover Traffic Law enforcement, Road Safety information, and the Traffic field altogether. Hence, students must be willing to partake and complete the entire programme sincerely. It will comprise on-field training as well as attendance in classes.

There are a total of 150 bursaries, 25 each will be distributed across the following districts:

  • Sarah Baartman District
  • Tambo District
  • Joe Gqabi District
  • Chris Hani District
  • Amathole District
  • Alfred Nzo District

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the ECDOT NQF Level 5 Trainee Traffic Officer Program, students must abide by the below-given criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must have no criminal records
  • Must have passed Grade 12 or equivalent (no particular subjects required)
  • Age must not be more than 35 years
  • Must have Code B driving License (manual transmission)
  • Must reside in the Eastern Cape province (must provide Proof of Residence)
  • Willing to commit to 1-year bursary contract with the Department of Transport

Applicants will have to go through medical, fitness, and driving assessments along with qualification checks and criminal record checks during recruitment process.
