About ECDOT (Eastern Cape Department of Transport)
The ECDOT (Eastern Cape Department of Transport) looks after enhancing and promoting the transport infrastructure and operations across South Africa to boost the country’s social and economic development.
The ECDOT executes five key programmes to carry out this objective, viz. Transport infrastructure, transport operations, administration, transport regulation, and community development.
The ECDOT mainly comprises two organizations viz. MTC (Mayibuye Transport Corporation) and The Government Fleet Trading Entity.
The General Fleet Management Entity looks after the procurement of vehicles for the Eastern Cape government, disposes of obsolete fleets, administers the government fleet, repaints/repairs/maintains vehicles, and develops/keeps track of fleet management strategies.
On the other hand, MCT – a parastatal bus operation works to ensure all the local communities across Chris Hani and Amathole districts and rural areas get top-notch transport services.
