The Thermo Fisher Scientific Phambili Trust is an initiative focused on broad-based black economic empowerment. The Trust’s goal is to support the academic development of black students. enable them to empower themselves through educational enrichment bursaries. These services are offered through Thermo Fisher Scientific’s renowned brands. These include Applied Biosystems, Thermo Scientific, Fisher Scientific, Invitrogen, Patheon, Unity Lab Services, and PPD.

About Thermo Fisher Bursary Programme

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Phambili Trust is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the upcoming academic year. This bursary award is targeted at Black students, pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) studies.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Phambili Trust Bursary

Thermo Fisher Bursary Programme Covered 

  • University tuition fees
  • Maintenance allowance or living costs
  • Additional expenses related to the candidate studies may be covered. If there are surplus funds in the bursary allocated to the applicant’s tertiary institution.
  • The Trust provides a bursary for one academic year. Which can be renewed based on the application and subject to the eligibility and academic performance of the candidate.

Bursary Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, candidates must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible:

  • Candidates must NOT be older than 35 years of age.
  • Candidates must be Black, as per B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice.
  • Candidates must have completed Matric.
  • Candidates must be studying or intend on studying towards a STEM-related qualification.
  • Candidates must study at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
  • Candidates must be from an economically disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need.

Documents Required

Submit clear and certified copies of the following documents with online or hardcopy application form:

  • A certified copy of your Identity document (ID)
  • A certified copy of your all academic records including the latest available results
  • A certified copy of your matric certificate, if completed Matric and not yet studying
  • Proof of acceptance or registration at the tertiary institution is required.
  • Tuition fee statement.
  • An invoice or quotation for accommodation services.
  • Motivation letter as to why the candidate should be awarded the bursary
  • A certified copy of your parents or guardians ID documents
  • Proof of income or unemployment for parents or legal guardians, including an affidavit if stating unemployment.
  • Please provide a certified copy of a SASSA letter if any members of the candidate’s family receive a social grant and contribute to your household income.
