TuksSport is the sports department of the University of Pretoria. It runs and maintains several sports training facilities and clubs. These clubs are focused on sports ranging from chess to cheerleading to cricket.
TuksSports clubs are membership-based open to students, staff, alumni, and the community. Besides training equipment, there are services like technical expertise, sports psychology, and injury support. Several South African athletes have made use of the clubs to train and compete at the international level.
TuksSport Sports Performance Support Fund Bursaries 2024
TuksSport is offering bursaries to certain South African students who want to further their careers in sports. The TuksSports Sports Performance Support Fund bursary will also facilitate your tertiary qualification.
The programme brings together talented and qualified coaches to train the bursars.
For the academic year 2024, the following are some of the sporting disciplines that are covered:
The students will have to select a single sport code. They cannot opt for multiple sports codes.
Moreover, the bursaries are awarded for one year initially. Students are then required to apply for it again to avail the benefits. They are renewed each year based on the previous year’s performance, training attendance, and level of commitment shown.
The University of Pretoria has certain requirements in place that the applicants must meet to avail of the bursary. It’s important that you review all of them. Ineligibility for even a single criterion leads to rejection of the application.
The eligibility criteria for the TuksSport Sports Performance Support Fund Bursaries are:

- Must have either completed Matric or are currently in Matric
- Must be willing to pursue a full-time education at the University of Pretoria
- Must be entering the first year of 2024 academic year
- Must have a credible and excellent track record in the eligible sports category
Meeting all the criteria, however, doesn’t guarantee selection. The next step of the selection process is based on the following criteria:
- Priorities of the TuksSport club, which is at their sole discretion
- Shortage of athletes in the club for events or playing position
- Applicant’s position on the current SA junior and senior rankings
- Applicant’s position in the international ranking
- The ability and likelihood of the applicant to qualify for international events
- Potential at the following events as determined by the selection committee:

Some of these will be reviewed again next year for renewal. So make sure you fulfill the criteria before applying.
