UFS Master’s and Doctoral Bursaries 2022

The University of the Free State has invited bursary applications for the year 2022 to provide financial support and assistance to the students in their master’s as well as doctoral studies. 

Coverage

Funds will be provided to cover the Tuition fees, which are subject to the funds available. It doesn’t cover the registration fees at the University, living costs, accommodation fees, travel costs to attend the conference or language editing costs. 

Eligibility Criteria For The UFS Master’s and Doctoral Bursaries

Candidates interested to apply for the bursary programme must satisfy the following eligibility requirements to qualify:

  • Students in their first year of research master’s or doctoral studies (one-time funding)
  • Students in their second year of research of their Master’s or doctoral studies whose progress reports have been submitted and who have shown satisfactory progress (one-time funding)
  • Students in their Second-year of structured master’s who have enrolled for the mini-dissertation (one-time funding)
  • Students in the third year of their doctoral studies who have made submission of progress reports showing satisfactory progress (one-time funding).

Note: Students registered for their first-year structured master’s or third-year master’s or fourth-year doctoral study are not eligible to apply for the bursary programme. 

How to Apply For The UFS Master’s and Doctoral Bursaries?

Applicants eligible for the bursary should apply online by completing and submitting the application forms by filling in all the required details.

  • For First-year research master’s students

You need to email the letter of admission and the supervisor-student supervision document (on page no. 4) to the email KhozaPN@ufs.ac.za

While sending the email, write ‘’Application for first-year master’s funding’’ in the email subject line. 

  • For Second-year research master’s students

Click on the link below to complete the online application:

  • For Second-year structured master’s students

Complete and send the structured master’s form (on page no. 3) to KhozaPN@ufs.ac.za by mentioning “Application for structured master’s funding” in the email subject line.

  • For First-year doctoral students

You need to email the letter of admission and the supervisor-student supervision document (on page no. 4) to the email KhozaPN@ufs.ac.za with “Application for first-year doctoral funding” mentioned in the email subject line. 

  • For Returning doctoral students

Important Notes:

The bursary for the academic year 2022 is one-time funding; it doesn’t guarantee any funding for the academic year 2023.

  • Only students without any other funding sources will be considered for the fund. Any students receiving other financial assistance in 2022 will not be considered.
  • The University of the Free State requires all students to meet all the academic requirements as well as enroll in an academic program.
  • Students must have already been assigned an internal supervisor to them by UFS.
  • During their first academic year, structured master’s students must complete all of their first-year modules.
  • Application forms with missing information will not be considered.
  • Submitting the applications through the wrong links will not be considered.

Closing Date For The UFS Master’s and Doctoral Bursaries

The last date of application is 28 February 2022. Note that any application submitted after the closing date will not be considered.
