NSFAS publishes its allowance costs annually. The latest official policy available is for the 2026 academic year, not 2027.

Which allowance categories may apply?

Your package is based on your institution, registration, living arrangement and other eligibility rules. These are categories in the current official policy; they are not a promise that every student receives every item.

University students

  • Learning materials
  • Living allowance for eligible students
  • Accommodation or transport—not both
  • Different rules for distance-learning credit loads

TVET college students

  • Personal care and living allowances where eligible
  • Accommodation or transport—not both
  • Different rules for distance and occupational programmes
  • Payments through an approved channel

How to check your allowance and payment

  1. 1

    Check myNSFAS

Open the official NSFAS website, select myNSFAS and look for funding details, notices or an action request.

  2. 2

    Ask your institution

Confirm that your registration data is complete and ask the financial-aid office which allowance categories and payment route apply to you.

  3. 3

Confirm banking instructions through an official route

Do not submit bank details through a link from an unknown message. Follow only the instruction inside myNSFAS, from your institution or on nsfas.org.za.

  4. 4

    Escalate with evidence

If payment is late, keep your status, registration confirmation and prior case reference ready when contacting NSFAS.

Allowance late or missing?

Payment may depend on accurate registration data and processing by your university, TVET college or approved payment channel. A delay at one institution does not prove that every NSFAS payment is late.

  • Read every notice in myNSFAS.
  • Ask whether your institution submitted and verified your registration data.
  • Confirm that the payment details requested through the official route are complete.
  • Contact NSFAS if the institution cannot resolve the issue.

NSFAS allowance FAQs

How much is the NSFAS allowance for 2027?
NSFAS has not published its 2027 allowance table. Any exact 2027 monthly amount shown before the official funding table is released is an estimate, not a confirmed rate.
What are the NSFAS payment dates for 2027?
The 2027 payment schedule has not been announced. Payment timing also depends on registration data, the type of institution and the approved payment route, so there is not one verified monthly calendar for every student.
Does every NSFAS student get the same allowances?
No. The allowance categories and amounts depend on factors including university or TVET study, accommodation, transport, distance-learning credit load and disability-related needs. Students normally qualify for accommodation or transport, not both.
Where can I check my own NSFAS allowance?
Check notices and funding details in your myNSFAS account, then confirm the disbursement schedule with your institution’s financial-aid office. For account, payment or balance enquiries, NSFAS lists 08000 67327 and [email protected].
Why is my NSFAS allowance late?
Common dependencies include verified registration data and processing by the institution or approved payment channel. Check myNSFAS for a notice, ask your institution whether your registration and payment details are complete, and contact NSFAS if no action is shown.
